The basics

Three ideas worth
getting right.

Most confusion about crypto comes from a few words used loosely. Here is what they mean for MoonBite.

01

A coin, not a token.

A coin has its own chain, with its own miners and its own rules. A token is an entry that lives on somebody else's chain. MBITE is a coin: MoonBite is its own proof-of-work network, and there is no MBITE token on any other chain.

02

Mined, not minted.

Nobody can create MBITE at will. New coins appear only as the block reward, currently {{ '{:g}'.format(consensus.current_reward_coins) }} MBITE, paid to whichever computer finds the next block. The reward halves every {{ '{:,}'.format(consensus.halving_interval) }} blocks, and every coin in existence was mined that way.

03

What a block is.

A block is a batch of transactions added to the chain, about every {{ consensus.block_time_min }} minutes. Each block points back to the one before it, so changing an old one would mean redoing all the work stacked on top. New blocks are found through mining.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

Still stuck on a word? The vocabulary explains every term on the site.

What is MoonBite (MBITE)?

MoonBite is an open, fair-launch cryptocurrency built on a Litecoin-lineage core. It is proof-of-work money you mine on your own hardware, hold in your own wallet, and verify with your own node. There was no premine, and the maximum supply is fixed at {{ '{:,.4f}'.format(consensus.max_supply_coins) }} MBITE.

Is MoonBite live yet?

Yes. MoonBite is live on mainnet: you can mine it and explore the chain in the explorer today. Testnet and regtest are there for trying things without touching mainnet. MBITE has no market price and is not trading anywhere.

Can I buy MBITE?

No. MBITE isn't listed on any exchange, so there is no buy button. The only way to get it right now is to mine it. A listing is on the roadmap; get notified when one goes live. Anyone offering to sell you MBITE is not us.

How do I mine MoonBite?

Make an address in the wallet, then run a miner: browser, one-click desktop, or command line. The block reward pays straight to your address. Full walkthrough in the mining guide. Mining uses electricity that may never be recovered.

What are my odds of mining a block?

Every hash your miner computes is an independent lottery ticket. On a live network your chance of finding any given block is your share of the total hashrate (the combined speed of every miner). If you run 1% of the network's power, you find roughly 1 block in every 100, and your expected time per block is the block time ({{ consensus.block_time_min }} min) divided by that share. Faster hardware buys a bigger share, nothing more.

One honest catch: mining is memoryless. A long dry spell doesn't make you "due". After a million misses the very next hash still wins with the exact same tiny probability. There is no streak and no momentum that shifts in your favour from past failures.

What does "self-custody" mean?

You hold your own private keys instead of trusting a company to hold them for you. The MoonBite wallet is non-custodial: your keys never leave your device, and this site will never ask for your seed phrase or private key.

Is MoonBite an investment?

No. MoonBite is an open-source technology project, not an investment or a security. Nothing here is financial advice, and nobody is promising future value.

Glossary

Full vocabulary →
BlockA batch of transactions added to the chain. New blocks are found through mining.

WalletSoftware that holds your keys and lets you send and receive MBITE.
NodeSoftware that validates and relays the chain, enforcing the rules independently.
HalvingA scheduled cut to the block reward. MoonBite halves every {{ '{:,}'.format(consensus.halving_interval) }} blocks.
MempoolThe waiting room of unconfirmed transactions before they're mined into a block.

never ask for.

Scam warning

MoonBite will never DM you first, ask for your seed phrase or private key, or run a presale.

There is no MBITE token on any other chain, and no airdrop or giveaway. Anyone offering to sell you MBITE, or promising that it will make you money, is not us.
