Mining uses electricity that may never be recovered.</p> </details> <details> <summary>What are my odds of mining a block?</summary> <p>Every hash your miner computes is an independent lottery ticket. On a live network your chance of finding any given block is your share of the total hashrate (the combined speed of every miner). If you run 1% of the network's power, you find roughly 1 block in every 100, and your expected time per block is the block time (<span class="mono">{{ consensus.block_time_min }}</span> min) divided by that share. Faster hardware buys a bigger share, nothing more.</p> <p>One honest catch: mining is <em>memoryless</em>. A long dry spell doesn't make you "due". After a million misses the very next hash still wins with the exact same tiny probability.
