MoonBite
A new kind of money · Est. {{ consensus.launch_year }}

We have nothing to sell you.

No company owns MoonBite. No investor holds an early discount. There are no coins for sale at any price, by us or by anyone. The only way to own one is to make it yourself, with a computer you already have. What follows is everything we know, told plainly.

Above: a MoonBite, magnified. It is not a thing you can hold. It is a line in a ledger that every machine on the network keeps at once, and that none of them can edit alone. {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins }} come into existence every {{ consensus.block_time_min }} minutes and go to whichever computer did the most arithmetic. That is the entire ceremony.

In 2009, a person nobody has ever met released nine pages of arithmetic and a small program, and money stopped needing a bank. The people who ran that program in the first year did not know what they had. They were not investors. Most of them were curious, and a little bored, and they left it running overnight.

Seventeen years later we know exactly what happened next, which is a strange problem. It means nobody can ever again be early to Bitcoin by accident. Every fair beginning since has been bought before it began — sold to funds at a discount, launched with a founder's share already mined, marketed with a price chart before it had a product.

MoonBite is our attempt to run the original experiment again, honestly, in {{ consensus.launch_year }}. Same idea: a coin that is made, not sold. Same rule: whoever shows up and does the work gets it. No premine, no presale, no allocation, no treasury, no team tokens. We began at block zero with zero coins, exactly like everybody else.

We are not going to tell you it will be worth something. We genuinely do not know, and anyone who claims otherwise is selling you something we are not.

The facts

Eleven things to know before you mine a single coin.

  1. 01

    Nobody owns it.

There is no company, no foundation, no board, and no head office. MoonBite is a program that thousands of people run on their own machines. If we vanished tonight, it would keep producing a block every {{ consensus.block_time_min }} minutes without noticing.

  2. 02

    There was no premine.

Not one coin existed before the network opened. No founder's stack, no advisor's allocation, no 20% set aside "for the ecosystem." Every MBITE in existence was mined in public, by somebody's computer, after the first block.

  3. 03

    {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins }} coins are born every {{ consensus.block_time_min }} minutes.

They go to whichever machine on the network solved that block's puzzle first. Not to us. There is no cut, no fee to the developers, no skim. The block reward is the only way coins are created, and it goes entirely to the miner.

  4. 04

The reward is cut in half, forever.

Every {{ '{:,}'.format(consensus.halving_interval) }} blocks the reward halves: {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins }} becomes {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins // 2 }}, {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins // 2 }} becomes {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins // 4 }}, and so on until it reaches nothing around the year {{ consensus.final_block_year }}. It never goes back up. This is written into the code and enforced by every machine on the network. Nobody can vote to print more.

  5. 05

There will never be more than {{ consensus.max_supply_label }}.

That is the whole supply, for all of time, across every person who will ever hold one. Half of all coins that will ever exist are mined in the first era — the one running right now, as you read this.

  6. 06

Your ordinary computer is the machine.

MoonBite uses a puzzle called RandomX, chosen deliberately because it runs best on the plain processor in a normal laptop and badly on the specialised hardware that took over Bitcoin mining. A warehouse of machines has no meaningful advantage over your desk. That is not a happy accident; it is the point.

  7. 07

    It has no price.

MoonBite is not listed on any exchange. You cannot buy it, sell it, or look up what it is worth, because it is not worth anything yet and may never be. We would rather write that sentence ourselves than have you discover it later. If someone offers to sell you MBITE today, they are lying to you.

  8. 08

No one can freeze it or reverse it.

There is no account to suspend and no support desk that can claw a payment back. Coins move when the holder of the key signs for them, and at no other time. This is a feature, and it is also a responsibility we cannot take off your hands.

  9. 09

    Every rule is public code.

The supply schedule, the halving, the puzzle, the wallet — all of it is published and readable. You do not have to take our word for a single claim on this page. You can read the code that enforces it, and run it yourself.

  10. 10

If you lose your recovery phrase, the coins are gone.

Twelve words control your wallet. Written on paper and kept somewhere safe, they survive a dead laptop. Lost, they are unrecoverable — by you, by us, by anyone. We say this plainly because the alternative is you learning it the expensive way.

  11. 11

You mine it, or it isn't yours.

That sentence is the entire product. Everything above is just the arithmetic that makes it true.

The loudest thing about this new money is the fan on your laptop.

How to begin

It takes about four minutes, and costs nothing.

STEP ONE

Make a wallet

Download the MoonBite wallet and write your twelve words on paper. This takes two minutes and is the only part you must not rush.

STEP TWO

Point the miner at it

Copy your address into the miner and press start. Your computer joins the network and begins competing for the next block.

STEP THREE

Leave it running

That is all. When your machine wins a block, {{ consensus.initial_subsidy_coins }} MBITE arrive in your wallet and nobody is able to take them.

There is nothing to buy

Start your computer mining tonight.

No sign-up, no email, no card, no account. Download it, point it at your own wallet, and let it run while you sleep.

A word of caution, since nobody else in this industry will offer one: mining uses electricity, which is a real cost, and MoonBite may never be worth a penny. Treat it as an experiment you find interesting, not as a plan for your money.

We would rather have a thousand people who understand what this is than a million who were told it would make them rich. If that is a slower way to grow, we accept it.
