MoonBite Core

Don't trust us. Check it.

MoonBite Core is the reference full node. It checks every transaction, enforces every rule, and takes nobody's word for anything — ours included. Run it and you stop trusting; you start verifying.

What it is

The reference implementation

MoonBite Core is the software that decides what the MoonBite network actually is. It's built on the Litecoin codebase, itself a descendant of Bitcoin Core, so it inherits decades of peer-reviewed cryptographic engineering.

Bitcoin lineage

MoonBite Core forks from Litecoin Core, which forks from Bitcoin Core. The consensus rules, the cryptography, the peer protocol — all of it has been hammered on across years of live mainnet.

It is the rulebook

Every MBITE parameter lives in this code: the 10 MBITE genesis reward, the halving every 1,650,000 blocks, the 2-minute block target, the ~33,000,000 MBITE cap. The software is the spec.

Open source, all of it

Every line of consensus-critical code is public. Read it, build it yourself, run it — no need to trust a binary handed to you by anyone, the MoonBite team included.

What it does

What your node actually does

Run MoonBite Core and you're a participant in the network, not a spectator watching someone else's screen.

Check every block

Your node runs every transaction in every block against the full ruleset: signatures, script, supply schedule, double-spend protection. Nothing gets through unchecked.

Relay to peers

Your node passes valid blocks and transactions on to everyone else. More nodes means faster propagation and a tougher mesh — harder to silence, harder to split.

Serve the RPC

MoonBite Core exposes a JSON-RPC API on localhost. Wallets, miners, and your own tools use it to read chain state, broadcast transactions, and query address history.

Keep the UTXO set

Every unspent output since genesis lives in a local database. When MBITE lands in your wallet, your node already knows. It never has to ask someone else's server.

Enforce the cap

No node anywhere — not even one the MoonBite developers run — can mint coins beyond the schedule. Try it, and your node rejects the block flat out.

Feed the explorer

The block explorer on this site reads from a MoonBite Core node over RPC. Run your own and you can pull the same data without leaning on this service at all.

Why run your own

The case for running a node

Every node you trust instead of running yourself is a point of trust. Trust stacks up. Your own node takes the whole layer away.

Sovereignty

Point your wallet at your own node and your transaction history and balances never leave your machine. A stranger's node sees every address you ask about.

Security

A hostile or hacked public node can feed you a fake chain tip. Your own node checks the proof-of-work itself. A crafted answer doesn't fool it.

A stronger network

Every extra full node raises the cost of a partition or eclipse attack. Running one is the most direct thing you can do for decentralisation.

Your node, your vote

If an upgrade ever gets contentious, the nodes that reject it are a real signal. Full-node operators are the final check on protocol changes. No miner or developer can override them.

Quick start

Start a node, hit the API

Once you have the daemon binary (see the download notes), a node is one command away. The RPC then waits for you on localhost.

Start the node

# start moonbited on the live mainnet
moonbited \
  -daemon \
  -rpcuser=rpcuser \
  -rpcpassword=rpcpass

# watch it sync
moonbite-cli getblockchaininfo

# or add -testnet to either command to run testnet instead

Hit the read-only REST API

# chain tip via the web API
curl https://moonbite.org/api/blockchain/info

# response
{
  "status": "success",
  "height": 4210,
  "tip_hash": "0000…",
  "total_money_coins": 42100
}

MoonBite Core runs the live mainnet. Running a node earns you nothing beyond the normal block subsidy you mine — no allocation, no bonus, no future claim. MoonBite is not an investment or a security.
