# MoonBite (MBITE)

MoonBite is a proof-of-work coin with its own Layer-1 chain, mined on ordinary CPUs with RandomX. Mainnet opened to public mining on 17 October 2026 at 07:00 CEST: 2-minute blocks, 10 MBITE per block, a fixed cap of about 33 million, and no premine.

> **Experimental.** MoonBite is young, has no exchange listing and no market price, and has not had an independent security audit. Hashrate is still small and mostly from the founder (disclosed in [ADR-006](docs/ADR-006-founder-mining-disclosure.md)). Run only binaries whose checksums you have verified, and only mine or hold what you can afford to lose.

## Status

| | |
| --- | --- |
| Mainnet | Public mining since 2026-10-17 07:00 CEST (genesis `ffe25d92…e39c`); no block could be mined earlier |
| Earlier chains | Retired; every coin starts from zero. See [ADR-006](docs/ADR-006-founder-mining-disclosure.md). |
| Seed nodes | 2 (New York, London) |
| Mining | Solo, from your own node. No pool exists or is needed. |
| Exchange listing | None |
| Independent audit | None yet. |

## Network parameters

| Parameter | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Ticker | MBITE |
| Proof of work | RandomX (CPU-optimised; GPUs and ASICs get no meaningful edge) |
| Block time | 2 minutes |
| Block reward | 10 MBITE, halving every 1,650,000 blocks (~6.3 years) |
| Max supply | 32,999,999.96 MBITE |
| Premine | None. Every coin comes from a mined block. |
| Coinbase maturity | 100 blocks (~3.3 hours) |
| Difficulty retarget | Every 60 blocks (~2 hours), max 4x per step |
| Addresses | bech32 `moon1…` (mainnet), `tmoon1…` (testnet) |
| Ports | P2P 9444, RPC 9445 (testnet 19555 / 19445) |
| Codebase | Fork of Litecoin Core v0.21.5.5 (Bitcoin Core lineage), PoW swapped to RandomX |

Design decisions are recorded as ADRs in [`docs/`](docs/): block time and retarget ([ADR-010](docs/ADR-010-two-minute-blocks-and-60-block-retarget.md)), fixed emission ([ADR-011](docs/ADR-011-emission-locked-fixed-cap.md)), timewarp and min-chainwork ([ADR-012](docs/ADR-012-no-timewarp-rule-min-chainwork.md)), miner distribution ([ADR-013](docs/ADR-013-miner-distribution-policy.md)).

## Mine MoonBite

1. Download the miner for [Windows](https://moonbite.org/download/windows) or [Linux](https://moonbite.org/download/linux) and unzip it.
2. Check the files against `SHA256SUMS.txt` (the miner prints its own hashes when it starts).
3. Run it:

```bash
.\mine.ps1     # Windows (or double-click Mine-MoonBite.bat)
./mine.sh      # Linux
```

The first run asks once where rewards should go: paste your wallet's Receive address, or press Enter and the miner creates a wallet on that computer. Each block you find pays 10 MBITE straight to that address. Nobody holds your coins, and there's no account and no pool.

Full guide: [`release/miner/README.md`](release/miner/README.md). The miner never installs itself, adds startup entries or asks for admin rights ([ANTIVIRUS.md](release/miner/ANTIVIRUS.md)).

## Verify what you run

- Every release lists SHA-256 hashes in `SHA256SUMS.txt`, and the miner prints the hash of the binaries it is about to run.
- Release bundles are built reproducibly: [`docs/REPRODUCIBLE-BUILDS.md`](docs/REPRODUCIBLE-BUILDS.md).
- Report security issues privately as described in [`SECURITY.md`](SECURITY.md).

| [`web_app.py`](web_app.py), [`templates/`](templates/), [`static/`](static/) | moonbite.org: site, explorer, wallet pages and merchant tools |
| [`deploy/`](deploy/) | Seed-node and server setup, CI and release tooling |

The node itself (C++, the Litecoin Core fork) is built separately and published as binaries in the download bundles.

The `.py` files and `.bat` launchers at the repository root are an older Python reference implementation from the project's early, educational stage. **They are not the MoonBite network.** Real mining uses `release/miner/`.
